Mary E. (Taylor) Straub, age 84, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Waters of Clifty Falls.
Born March 13, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Bronce and Florence (Powell) Taylor, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Hobart McCartt in 1966.
Mrs. Straub was retired from King’s Daughters’ Hospital as a nurse’s aide and had previously worked at the Hertz Shoe Store and the former Conn Organ Company. She attended Faith Alliance Church. She was a member of the Women’s Aglow and the New Testament Singers. When Mary came to Madison at the age of fifteen, she was graciously accepted by Leonard and Hazel Eades who raised her until her marriage to Lafie at age eighteen.
Survivors include her husband, Lafie D. Straub whom she married on March 23, 1946; one daughter, Rosie L. Burns and her husband, Larry of Madison; two sons, Dennis Straub and his wife, Sherry and Michael Straub and his wife, Harriet both of Madison; one step-brother, James McCartt and his wife, Cheryl of Cincinnati, OH; six grandchildren, Carla D. Burress and her husband, Rick, Debbie L. Campbell, Jon Michael Burns and his wife, Candee, Jason Trevor Burns and his wife, Lena, Brandon Lee Burns and Missy Coombs and her husband, Brian; three step-grandchildren, Annette M. Ellegood and her husband, Darren, Robert W. Corbin and his wife, Kris and Karen S. Schmidt and her husband, Don; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Alan Nickell will conduct funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Vail-Holt Funeral & Cremation Service, 117 Holt Drive with interment in Dupont Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Vail-Holt Funeral & Cremation Service, 117 Holt Drive from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013 and from 10:00 A.M. Friday until time of service.
